Children have an innate drive to learn. It’s the way they learn to walk, to talk. Tapping into this intrinsic motivation supports a natural way of learning. The concept and movement of ‘democratic education’ is gaining momentum across the world, with people organising themselves to start new schools. In most cases, they are fighting an uphill battle outside the boundaries of ‘the system’. For parents, it’s not an easy step to follow this route. One that is usually taken with the heart.
Being a believer in this approach to education, I have supported a group of pioneers starting a democratic school in my hometown Leiden. I created a presentation with photos and quotes that is conveying the essence and key aspects of their initiative. The colourful brand identity I designed is referring to playful learning as well as to the way democratic schools are organised, in circles.
